Abu Dhabi Courts to Trial Live Translation System

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) have announced the launch of an interpretation centre to provide courts with translation services for all stages of trial.

This new initiative will provide translation services via video hearings at each phase, and aims to reduce the need for translators to travel between venues according to a recent article in the Khaleej Times.

The new service, announced on Sunday 6th May, was launched by Counsellor Yousif Saeed Al Abri, Under-Secretary of the ADJD, and Ali Mohammed Al Baloushi, Attorney-General of Abu Dhabi.

Counsellor Al-Abri said: “Through the use of video communication, the ADJD interpretation centre will enhance the quality of the services provided in accordance with the highest international standards. It will ensure efficient adjudication of cases and quality judgments, ensuring a just and efficient criminal justice system.”

Al-Abri highlighted the enthusiasm of the ADJD to work towards modernisation, keeping ahead of technological developments, in a bid to ensure Abu Dhabi has a high performing judicial system that contributes towards the realisation of the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

The new service will augment efficiency and effectiveness of case processing and adjudication of cases, providing a quality translation service for clients that will ensure a just legal system for Abu Dhabi.

The Under-Secretary also suggested that the ADJD are keen to develop the translation service through use of smart technology so as to enable an advanced service for clients, and to meet public aspirations.

The use of video technology within the interpretation services ensures a coordination of translation tasks, utilising the whole infrastructure of the ADJD.

This interpretation centre will enable translators and interpreters to work from one central hub, as opposed to moving from court to court as was previously required, thus saving both time, and money, for the Judicial Department, while maximising available resources.
